Govind Dev Ji Temple, Jaipur
The original Govind Devji Deity was found about 450 years ago by Rupa Goswami. Govindevji
was removed from Vrindaban when the Muslim emperor Aurangzeb tried to destroy it.
The original Deity is now in Jaipur, in Govind Devji temple right outside the King
of Jaipur's palace.
The Great Grand Son of Lord Shri Krishna asked his Grand Mother as to how Lord Shri
Krishna looked like. Then he made an image as per the description given by her.
She however, said that not all but the Feet of that image looked like those of Lord
Shri Krishna. He made another image, yet she said that the Chest looked like that
of Lord Shri Krishna. Thereafter, He made the Third Image and looking at the same
she felt Blush and Nodded that yes that was what Lord Shri Krishna Looked Like!!!
The First One was known with the Name Lord "Madan Mohanji". The Second One got recognition
as Lord "Gopi Nathji". And the Third One, The Divine Majestic Holy Image is Lord
"Govind Devji".
Govind Dev Ji Temple is one amongst the major tourist attractions of Jaipur. The
Temple represents the royal past of Jaipur. Govind Devji Temple of Jaipur is situated
in the City Palace complex, between the Chandra Mahal and Badal Mahal. Govind Dev
Ji is the principal deity of Amber's Kachawaha Dynasty.
This Krishna Temple is highly revered by the erstwhile royal family. The image brought
from Vrindavan, is housed within the sanctum of this spire less temple, the patron
deity of the royal family is very religiously worshipped by most of the Hindus in
the city and near by areas.
According to a legend, Govind Dev Ji appeared in the dream of Raja Sawai Jai Singh
and asked him to bring his idol from Vrindavan to Jaipur. As a consequence, Raja
Sawai Jai Singh brought the idol and placed in the City Palace complex of Jaipur.
After the sad demise of Jai Singh, many successors acquired the throne, but Raja
Man Singh took the initiative to build the temple in 1890.
The image is unveiled seven times daily for 'AARTIES' and BHOGS offered in the silver
wares, consisting of sweets mostly. The idols of RADHA KRISHNA are dressed in different
styles each time for the 'AARTI' procession where thousands of followers or 'Bhakt'
gather around the courtyard for the Darshan (a look connecting them with the divine).
A large number of tourists and devotees visit this temple of special importance.
Janmashtmi, the birthday of Lord Krishna, is a special event and is celebrated with
full enthusiasm. Govind Dev Ji Temple is a sacred place of the Hindus. The Temple
has also become a tourist attraction in the contemporary times.
