Allah Jilai Bai
Allah Jilai Bai was a reputed folk singer from Bikaner city in Rajasthan.
Allah Jilai Bai was born on February 1, 1902 to a family of singers in Bikaner.
Her talents came into the spotlight from as early as the age of ten when she was
invited to the court of Maharaja Ganga Singh for her beautiful performance.
The inborn talents of Allah Jilai Bai in singing were further groomed by Ustad Hussain
Baksh Khan and also by the renowned Achhan Maharaj. She grew up well versed in Khayal,
Thumri, Dadra and Maad which formed a strong base to her numbers. Her versatility
found the best of representation in Kesaria Balma which still allures the connoisseurs
of music.
This glorious artist left for the heavenly abode on November 3, 1992
Awards
In 1982, The Indian Government awarded her the Padma Shri, one of the highest civilian
awards.
