Congress Anounces More Candidates for General Elections in Rajasthan

Congress has announced the names of six candidates from Rajasthan for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2009. The list was finalized in a meeting of the Central Election Committee of the Congress Party, chaired by its President Sonia Gandhi on Friday.

Who will Contest in Elections From Congress in Rajasthan?

Union Minister Namo Narayan Meena is among the six candidates from Tonk-Sawai Madhopur constituency announced by the Congress. Meena is a sitting MP from Sawai Madhopur, an ST-reserved constituency that has now been restructured as general Tonk-Sawai Madhopur seat.

Congress second list has a surprise inclusion in the form of Divya Singh from Jaipur rural seat. Wife of Bharatpur royal scion, Vishvendra Singh, Divya was a BJP MLA from Deeg and the couple had joined Congress on the eve of the assembly polls after she was replaced by Digambar Singh from newly carved Deeg-Kumher seat.

She was also MP from Bharatpur LS seat before her husband won from there in 2004 as BJP candidate. Bharatpur is now reserved for SC category and Divya has been fielded from Jaipur rural eyeing a decisive presence of Jat vote bank.

Congress’s Churu candidate Rafique Mandelia, is a relative of Churu MLA Maqbool Mandelia. He is the only Muslim candidate in the party’s list so far.

Ijjeyaraj Singh, the candidate from Kota, is son of Kota ex-royal, Brijraj Singh, the four-time MP from Jhalwar.

Other candidates includes  Mahadev Singh Khandela and Khilari Lal Bairwa will be nominated for Sikar and Karauli-Dholpur seats respectively.

The party, however, could not announce its candidate from Alwar. Its nominee Bhanwar Jitendra Singh had expressed reluctance in contesting from the seat owing to health reasons.
