Six Young Congress Leaders and Seventeen New Comers as Member of Parliament from Rajasthan

In this year Lok Sabha, seventeen first time MPs will represent Rajasthan in Parliament. The new faces in the Parliament will have 14 MPs from Congress, two from BJP and one independent.

The Congress MPs who will make their debut in Parliament include Jitendra Singh (Alwar), Harish Choudhary (Barmer),  Ratan Singh (Bharatpur) and Bharat Ram Meghwal (Ganganagar-SC).

Girja Vyas won the Chittorgarh seat by defeating sitting BJP MP Srichand Kripalini. The other two are Chandresh Kumari from Jodhpur and Jyoti Mirdha from Nagaur seat who defeated Jaswant Singh Vishnoi and Bindu Choudhary of BJP respectively.

The other Congress MPs, who made a successful entry to the House are Mahesh Joshi (Jaipur), Lalchand Kataria (Jaipur), Khiladi Lal Bairwa (Karauli-Dholpur), Ijyaraj Singh (Kota), Gopal Singh (Rajsamand), C P Joshi (Bhilwara), Jyoti Mirdha (Nagaur), Badri Ram Jakhar (Pali), Raghuveer Singh Meena (Udaipur) and Mahadev Singh (Sikar).

The two newcomers from the BJP are Arjun Ram Meghwal (Bikaner) and Devji Patel (Jalore), and one independent Kirori Meena (Dausa).

Winning Young Candidate from Congress in Rajasthan

Jyoti Mirdha 36, 38-year-old Jitendra Singh and 44-year-old Ijyaraj Singh, Sachin Pilot (31), Lalchnad Kataria (35) , and Harish Choudhray (38) have all emerged as winners in this year’s lok sabha elections.

With six Young Turks from Congress winning in Rajasthan, they formed a little over a third of the 25 MPs that the sate elected.

This young in’ mantra given by party’s general secretary Rahul Gandhi worked unexpected wonders for Congress. It was on his continuous insistence that the party risked giving seats to absolute novice candidates and pitted them against seasoned campaigners.

Rajasthan General Elections – 6 MPs from Rajasthan can get Ministry in Centre

The Rajasthan State Congress, which has contributed significantly to UPA’s victory by having a clean sweep of 20 seats out of 25,  is now eying a leap in the number of ministries its MPs will get at the Centre.

In 2004, Congress won only four seats and two MPs from the sate – Namonarayan Meena and Sisram Ola  became ministers. This time round, besides the two, who won once again, Girija Vyas, Sachin Pilot, Chandresh Kumari and C P Joshi are hopeful to get posts in the central ministry.

Sachin Pilot, whose victory from Ajmer is being seen as a move away from his father Rajesh Pilot’s shadow, could also win him a ministerial berth. Last time, he won from Dausa, from where his father had won five times. But this time, he had to move to Ajmer after Dausa became a reserved constituency.

Mining minister Sisram Ola, and minister of state for environment and forest Namonarain Meena may be retained whereas Girija Vyas, who won from Chittorgarh, may once again get a ministry. Vyas, at present the chairman of the National Women’s Commission, had been central minister in the past and her experience is likely to work in her favour.

Rajasthan PCC chief C P Joshi, who won by over one lakh votes in Bhilwara despite a one-vote defeat during the assembly polls, is one of the strong contenders for a ministerial job.

Scion of the Jodhpur royal family, Chandresh Kumari, who won from Jodhpur, was also a minister at the Centre in the past and being an experieced campaigner is now billed to get a minsitry again.

Namonarain Meena Set Records -   Won with lowest margin of 317 votes across country.

Union Minister Namonarain Meena was declared elected from Tonk-Sawai Madhopur constituency with a margin of just 317 votes on Sunday.  Mr Namonarain Meena also set a record in this year’s Lok Sabha polls by winning with lowest margin in the country.

Mr Meena barely manged to defeat his nearest BJP rival Kirori Singh Bainsla, who came to limelight after he led the Gujjar agitation last year.

Till Sunday morning, the lowest victory margin in the country was in the name of Nattubhai Gomanbhai, who won as BJP candidate from Dadra – Nagar Haveli. Nattubhai was followed by M K Raghavan of Congress who romped home with a margin of 838 votes from Kozhikode constituency in Kerala.

First Time Two Meenas have won from Eastern Rajasthan

Belying apprehensions of an anti-Meena polarization of votes, the two Meena candidates Kirorilal and Namonarain have retained their forts in eastern Rajasthan as Meena hegemony remains unscathed in the region.

Independent Kirorilal won from Dausa by an emphatic margin of over 1.30 lakh votes while Namonarain could manage a 317-vote victory from Tonk-Sawai Madhopur. This is the first time that the two Meenas have won from eastern Rajasthan.

Rajasthan State Elections 2008 | My Views on Who Will Win

Rajasthan State Elections 2008 | Vote Box

Rajasthan State Elections 2008 | Vote Box

The state assembly election phobia is quite visible on the streets in Jaipur, my home town. Political parties have started big time campaigning and promoting themselves and their election agenda by various means.

The list of final candidates contesting this elections have been finalized. We have already written blogs on the list of candidates sometime back.

In the beginning, Congress party announced certain norms for selecting party candidates, however they didn’t adhere to same and candidates beyond 70 yrs of age have been given a ticket under pressure from the veterans.

Congress also ignored Youth and Women leaders against their promises. The party gave a change to candidates as per the successor policy which from my point of view makes them vulnerable to win this time also.

While BJP (Bhartiya Janta Party) though changed about 35% of the candidates, still the loyalists had their stay in the contesting candidates list. Both the parties are facing serious incumbency from their own party candidates who are now fighting as rebels.

BJP though have cadre but its base seems to be eroded as the image of the party doesn’t looks respectable having major impact by Land Mafias, Power Brokers and Liquor Mafias.

There is a general feeling that BJP could have done much better for the general public than what they have done in last 5 yrs. I see no enthusiasm in general public as they feel both the parties are flooded with irregularities and the ruler masses who mattered most, haven’t received any relief since last 60 years or so.

The only effective leader Mr Ashok Gehlot from Congress is still being disliked by one important community of state who are about 12% in population and matter more than 60-65 constituencies in Rajasthan. BJP on the other hand, have support of RSS and other Hindutva parties, and is expected that this support might give them boost in the elections this time around. Still once sided voting by minorities and Reserved castes who normally vote against them, will do maximum damage in their vote sharing.

BJP ageneda of rapid development and good governance is making hardly any impressions on the mind of general public. One of the major agenda which is making a impact is corruption. The cast is also another big agenda. Here in Rajasthan, People says “Vote is not casted, but Cast is Voted”.

I as a common citizen of Rajasthan always feel that why these parties do not select candidates with clean nationalistic image and have visionary mindset. General opinion is Congress may win but as BJP has its own strengths, so no one can really predict who might sweep these elections.

Rajasthan State – Elections 2008 At A Glance | Who Will Win ? My View

Rajasthan State was formed as ‘Rajputana’ by merging many big and small feudral kingdoms such as Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Kota, Jhalawar, Matsya, Jaisalmer etc. Later on Siroi and Ajmer areas merged to form a larger state of Rajasthan.

After Independence, the state has undergone radical progress and development from various aspects as literacy rate, agriculture, power reforms and health factor. In last 60 years, the three chief ministers who really mattered for the developmental acceleration of the state are “Mr Mohan Lal Sukhadia”, “Mr Bhairon Singh Shekhawat” and “Madam Vasundra Raje”.

Though other chief ministers namely Mr Hiralal Shastri, Mr Venkatchari, Mr Teeka Ram Paliwal, Mr JaiNarayan Vyas, Mr Barkatulla Khan, Mr Shiv Charan Mathur, Mr Haridev Joshi, Mr Jagannath Pahadia, Mr Heera Lal Devpura and Mr Ashok Gehlot have also played a considerable part in bringing about changes in Rajasthan.

Rajasthan state had water scarcity as the major problem in the past and even today. The actual farmers were not the majority land owners as the kingdom owners owned the majority of land. It was Mr ML Sukhadia, who by his smart legislation helped the farmers gain ownership of the land they were cultivating. The state has shown rapid growth in transportation, irrigation and power sector.

By and large people were oppressed because of the very nature of feudalism in the past. Democracy was really never a part of their life till initial years of independence. The state of Rajasthan has mainly two national parties contesting the elections since a long time, they are Congress and Bhartiya Janta Party. Though small parties as Ram Rajya Parishad, Swatantra Party, Janta Dal and Lok Dal emerged, but could not win the voters confidence for staying long.

In last 60 years, the progress is commandable, still the state governments have failed to provide safe drinking water to the inhabitants.

In the last elections, Madam Vasundra Raje emerged victorious with comfortable majority against the popular belief of Congress doing a second term under the leadership of Mr Ashok Gehlot. Infact, parties loose and parties win, but they hardly analyze why after remaining in power for 5 yrs, do poorly inspite of claiming all things in their favor. The congress lost in the last elections may be due to lack of communication between the general public and the bureaucrats.

I would continue from here tomorrow and will analyze and present my views on various elections agendas for state assembly this year around.

BJP Announced First list of Candidates for Rajasthan Elections

The Rajasthan elections this time are crucial for the political fortunes of Vasundhara Raje. But before she begins the battle against the Congress, settling the internal rift over ticket distribution in the BJP has become an acid test of Raje’s political skills. After hours of deliberations over the weekend, the BJP finally announced its first list of candidates for the Assembly elections. The polls for the 200-seat state assembly are scheduled Dec 4.

However, despite the lengthy discussions, the BJP senior leaders could only finalize and announce the names of 95 candidates, 21 less than the Congress in their first list. The list includes Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, who will contest from Jhalrapatan, the constituency from which she won in the last elections.

BJP Candidate for the Election

In its first list of candidates for the Rajasthan polls, the BJP has dropped the names of 12 sitting legislators and repeated 24 members. The rest of the candidates are new faces.

According to the list, the food and civil supplies minister Ghanshyam Tiwari is the candidate from Sanganer, education minister Kalicharan Saraf from Malviya Nagar and the mayor Ashok Parnami from Adarsh Nagar.

Two Cabinet ministers will also contest from different seats. While professor Sanwar Lal Jat will contest from Nasirabad as his present seat Bhinai is now reserved. Rajendra Singh Rathore has now shifted to Taranagar. Rathore, who was facing strong anti-incumbency in his present constituency of Churu, made his presence felt in Taranagar during the past six months.

The BJP has also kept its promise of more tickets for women. The list includes 15 women candidates. The list also includes three candidates from the minority communities. The BJP, which has dropped 12 sitting legislators and repeated 24 members, has fielded a number of new faces.

The party has gone ahead with Dr Digamber Singh from Deeg. The party has also allotted the Bandikui ticket to Salindra Joshi, former Congress minister who had recently joint the BJP.

According to party, the discussions for the remaining seats will continue on Monday, though the party is expected to announce the second list on November 13. Most of the remaining seats are sensitive and can lead to protests and hence, the party is postponing the announcement till the last moment.

General Assembly Elections of Rajasthan – Congress Candidates List

The Election Commission has announced 4th December, 2008 as the day for holding general assembly elections of Rajasthan. The term of the Legislative Assembly (LA) of Rajasthan is expiring on 14th January, 2009. As per Article 324 of the Constitution of India and Section 15 of Representation of the People Act, 1951, it is mandatory on the part of Election Commission to hold general elections to constitute the new Legislative Assembly of Rajasthan within a period of six months before the expiry of the present term.

The last Rajasthan assembly elections were held in 2003 where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Vasundhara Raje had claimed a comfortable victory.

Congress ‘generational shift’ in Rajasthan

In an apparent bid to bring about a ‘generational shift’ — a buzzword in the party since the induction of Rahul Gandhi as AICC general secretary 13 months ago — in its leadership, the Congress has denied tickets to several old leaders in the forthcoming Assembly elections in Rajasthan.

But true to the tradition in the grand old party, the baton of leadership has gone to the kin of those denied tickets — from former chief minister Jagannath Pahadia to his son Sanjay Pahadia in Weir Assembly constituency; from former state minister Ramnarayan Choudhury to his daughter Rita Kumari on Mandawa seat  from former state minister Tayyab Hussain to his daughter Zahida on Kaman seat, and from former minister Khet Singh Rathore to his nephew Umed Singh Rathore in Shergarh.

The list of Congress candidates for 116 seats, released by the Central Election Committee on Wednesday, also included a relative of President Pratibha Patil’s husband Devi Singh Shekhawat — Vijendra Singh for Udaipurwati Assembly constituency. All of them will debut in an Assembly election. Union Minister Sis Ram Ola’s son Brijendra Singh Ola, who had lost thrice in the Assembly elections, was given party ticket yet again for Jhunjhunu Assembly constituency.

Electoral Rolls in Rajasthan

General Elections in Rajasthan will be conducted on the basis of the electoral rolls revised with reference to 1st January, 08 as the qualifying date and prepared in accordance with constituencies newly delimited by the Delimitation Commission. In Rajasthan, the total number of electors is 3,62,19,481.

Presently, the EPIC coverage in Rajasthan is 84.63%. There are 42,212 polling stations in Rajasthan. Vote counting will take place on December 08, 2008.

We would keep you updated with the political trends in our state on this blog as we have kept you busy with the travel blogs everyday. These election capsules will be published as and when some happening news comes our way.

Rajasthan State Elections Announced

About Elections

Election can not be viewed as an isolated event, but is a part of a holistic process for promoting democratic governance. Greater public information & outreach capacity, transparency, capacity building and empowerment of the citizens are the key areas which are being emphasized by the  Election  Department. Upgrading and cleaning of Electoral Rolls is a continuous  process

Election Commission has announced to hold crucial assembly election in five states including Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh (MP), Rajasthan, Mizoram and Delhi next month. The assembly elections in these five states are prelude to general elections that are set to be held next year.

Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) is the ruling party in three out of the five state assemblies that are going to polls. These are bigger and populous state that may decide the fate of the two parties in the forthcoming Parliamentary elections later next year. BJP has won several assembly elections in a row including in Karnataka where BJP came to power for the fist time.

For the Congress party winning these assembly elections would be very crucial as it will reflect as to whether Congress party can hope of returning to power in the parliamentary election and also how it is able to bargain with its alliance partners in UPA.

Elections in Rajasthan

The polls in Rajasthan will be held on  December 4. According to sources as per the final polls, there are  3,62,19,481 eligible voters in Rajasthan.

The state of Rajasthan will go to the polls in 2008 to elect 200 legislators, as declared by the Election Commission of India. The voting and vote counting dates have not been finalized yet. The last Rajasthan assembly elections were held in 2003 where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Vasundhara Raje had claimed a comfortable victory.

Policies by BJP in Rajasthan – For This Polls

In Rajasthan, the BJP party is expected to consider a proposal which will bar those who have failed to win thrice, consecutively, and those who had lost the previous election by a margin of more than 25,000 votes, from being given a ticket for the forthcoming elections.

Those MLAs who constituencies have been redrawn considerably on account of the delimitation process too are unlikely to be considered. This would mean that as many as 50% new faces will figure in the forthcoming assembly election line up. The party proposes to announce an initial list of candidates in the third week of October.

In the last assembly election in Rajasthan, the BJP secured its victory by a margin of 4%. This means that the BJP will need to be extremely careful while considering the winning potential of its candidates. There will also be some reworking to accommodate new caste alliances and reinforce existing ones. The BSP, which is expected to contest all 200 seats, is expected to play a spoiler and the BJP is banking on the party to cut into the Congress vote base.
