Rabindra Nath Tagore Medical College, Udaipur

Rabindra Nath Tagore Medical College (RNTMC), situated in Udaipur, was established in the year 1962.

The college is recognized by Medical Council of India and is affiliated to Rajasthan University of Health and Sciences, Jaipur.

The building of RNTMC was donated by the HH ex-Maharana of Udaipur and its administrative block is housed in another historical palace that was donated by Salumber Rao.

Objective

RNTMC was started with an objective to spread the light of medical education in the state. Over the years, the college has become one of the leading medical institutes in the state. It imparts academic excellence in the field of medicines at multiple levels.

Courses and Admission Procedure

RNTMC offers 5.5 years bachelor’s degree courses in MBBS. To get admission in the college the candidate has to clear PMT (pre medical test) and after that merit list is prepared on the basis of score of the candidates. As per the Government of India norms, the reservation for SC, ST and OBC is available in the college.

Every year, the college offers 100 seats in graduation, 66 seats in post graduation, 18 seats in diploma and 1 seat in DM Cardiology, which commenced from 2006.

Training Standard of RNTMC and Facilities

RNTMC has a very good and professional training standard especially in medicine. It has started offering one seat in DM cardiology from 2006 as well. The students get trained here and it is rendering its services to patients from both rural & urban sectors. The college also provides all basic facilities like canteen, hostel, well furnished classroom, library, conference hall etc.

Practical Education in Hospitals

The college is attached to various hospitals to provide a blend of theoretical and practical education.   The hospitals include the likes of Maharana Bhupal District Hospital, Panadhay Female District Hospital, Hindustan Zinc Cardiology Hospital, Saith Ramvilas Bhuwalaka Yakshma Arogya Sadan and the Badi Tatha Baal Chikitsalaya. In these hospitals the students get the practice training of what they have learnt.

Food Craft Institute, Udaipur

The Food Craft Institute in Udaipur was established in 1989. It under takes various training programmes for hotels, restaurants, dhabas etc. apart from its regular courses.

The institute is affiliated to the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology. The total number of seats for admission are 200.

Course Offered by Institute

Food Craft Institute offers front office, housekeeping, food production and food & beverage courses. These four are diploma courses of duration one and half year.

Front office course is to train the students in reception work calls for public relations and skill in dealing with people of different types. Housekeeping course is for hotel and institutional housekeeping which is too importance. Similarly food production ad food & beverage courses are for successful running of every Hotel & Catering Industry.

Facilities

The institute provides all basic facilities to its students. For the learners belonging to the different parts of the state, the institution has an excellent hostel facility. Other facilities are well furnished class rooms, conference hall, library, and auditorium. The institute also hire well experienced faculty so that they can get excellent guidance.

Training and Job Placement

Food and Craft institute has an active training and placement cell which is working hard to train the students to be a professional in their work. It provides the interview facility to the students and many students are placed in the well known hotels and establishments for training and job placement.

Excellent Results

The institute has given excellent results. Two of its students have received National Award for Academic excellence in Cookery and Housekeeping.

About Gangaur Festival

Celebrated during the Hindu month of Chaitra(March- April), the two day festivity is marked by a joyous mood which pervades the environs of Udaipur. This festival is dedicated to Gauri, a manifestation of Goddess Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva and Symbol of conjugal bliss and marital happiness.

During the Festival the delightful culture of Rajasthan comes into full view through songs, dances, devotional music and fireworks displays.

In days of yore, men had to go out for a long periods of time to attend to their professions and Gangaur was an occassion when married women were re- united with their husbands.

Thousands of people from the countryside comes to take part in the procession of Gangaur, which goes around from village to village. Tribal men and women get the opportunity to meet and interact freely and during this time, they select partners and elope to marry. An unusual, romantic custom sanctioned by the community, it helps many young people find their life partner.

Women make various ornaments out of gram flour for decorating the images of Isar and Gauri. The ornaments are so beautiful that they seem to made out of Gold itself and impart a life like appearance to the images.

Evenings are coloured with Gangaur processions . Groups of Women balancing several brass pitchers on their heads add to the gaiety of the Udaipur celebrations.

Highlights of Gangaur Festival

The highlight of the festival is a grand festival is a grand boat procession which starts from famous Lake Palace and ends at the Gangaur Ghat of Lake Pichola. A ‘Shobha Yatra‘ is taken out through the main street of the city  elephants, camels, horses and folk artists participate in this rally.

A fancy dress compedition for foreign couples dressed in Rajasthani costumes is a big draw for participants and spectators alike.

There are many sweets and dishes prepared during the festival which tastes amazing, and the best part is the Shobha Yatra which is great to watch and even involve.

About Jagdish Temple

Jagdish Temple is one of the famous temples of Udaipur.  The Jagdish temple is dedicated to Lord Jagannath. Since the temple is located at a height, you will need to climb a long flight of stairs.

As and when you approach the temple, you will be welcomed by two huge stone elephants at the entrance. On the very front of the temple, you would find a stone slab that is imprinted with the inscriptions with reference to Maharaja Jagat Singh. To reach the main shrine, you have to take a marble flight of 32 steps. A brass image of Garuda, half- man and half eagle stands guarding the doorway of the temple.

A fine example of  Indo – Aryan architecture, the temple has a pyramidal spire is decorated with figures of dancers musicians , elephants and horsemen. The first and the second storey of the temple possess 50 pillars each. The intricate carvings on the pillars need an enduring sight to praise the noteworthy beauty of this temple.

This temple was built keeping in the mind the Hindu architectural science of ‘Vastushstra’.  Every year, people from far and near come to visit this holy place of worship. The serenity as well as the architectural magnificence of the temple cannot be bounded in words, so one must visit this temple to get the blessings of Lord Jagdish.
