40 Tigers Sighted in Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan

Ranthambore National Park is one of the biggest and most renowned national park in Northern India. The park is located in the Sawai Madhopur district of southeastern Rajasthan, which is about 130 km from Jaipur.

Considered as one of the famous and former hunting grounds of the Maharajas of Jaipur, today Ranthambore National Park terrain is major wildlife tourist attraction in India. It has pulled the attention of many wildlife photographers and lovers in this destination.

40 Tigers in Ranthambore

During the past few years, there has been a decline in tiger population in Ranthambore due to poaching and other reasons. However there were some tigers who succeeded in carrying on their genes even in such circumstances.

According to recent Forest department survey, there are 40 tigers in and around Ranthambore National Park and Sawai Madhopur wildlife sanctuary.  The survey done in the core division of these tiger project (from April 30, 2009 to May 10, 2009) reveals that there were 14 males, 16 females and 10 cubs.

According to Reports, January to November 30, 2009, only 1 tiger lost its life due to the struggle among the animals in Bakola forest area. Illegal activities in the protected areas have come down drastically and the department has collected Rs 74,000 as fine during the period.

Ranthanbore National Park is not only about wildlife. There is a fair bit of history and legend too that somehow makes a heady cocktail of a safari viz-a-viz the impregnable Chauhan Fort which is strategically located at a height of 215 meter. One has to climb a flight of stairs to reach the fort.

Teej is essentially a women’s festival. At the time of Teej, women dress up like a newly wed. They wear green, red and yellow attires, decorate their hands and feet with fascinating mehndi designs.

Girls engaged to be married receive gifts from their future in-laws a day before the festival. The gift called shrinjhara derived from the word Shringar (adornment) consists of henna, lac bangles, a special dress of laharia (tie and dye fabric) and a sweet called ghewar.

Religious Significance of Teej

It is said that on Teej day goddess Parvati was united with Lord Shiva after a penance of a hundred years – making them a symbol of an ideal marriage. Invocation of Parvati’s blessings on this day results in continued marital bliss.

Rajasthan Budget Announced – Some Good Steps To Promote Travel Tourism in Rajasthan

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced the state budget in the state legislative assembly yesterday at Jaipur.

Some Highlight of Budget Towards Tourism Sector

VAT  Increased From 12.5% to 14%

The airlines service tax has been substantially reduced from 28% to 4% and VAT has been increased from 12.5% to 14%.

Low Rent for Budget Rooms

There is a great news for budget travelers as the budget exempted room fare in hotels costing up to Rs 3,000 from luxury taxes.

Formation of Rajasthan Tourism Act

To facilitate tourists and bring some regulation in the tourism sector in Rajasthan, Mr Gehlot emphasized on the formation of a Rajasthan Tourism Act, a Heritage Development Council and Heritage Development Authority.

A budget of Rs 10 crore has been allocated for the conservation of  heritage properties in rajasthan.

Nodal Agency to Encourage Investment in Tourism

Among the other announcements were to develop nazool’ properties of tourist importance under a transparent policy. The department of tourism would be a nodal agency to encourage investment in tourism. Besides, old forts, step wells and castles that are the rich legacy of the state would be listed for nomination as the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Promotion of  Art and culture and the Folk Traditions

To promote art and culture and the folk traditions there is a proposal to upgrade the Jawahar Kala Kendra as Center for Performance & Living Art for which Rs 1.25 crore has been allocated. Now all accomplished artisans in folk art will be honored with Rajasthan Ratan’.

Restoration of Temples

The budget has been increased from Rs 2 crore to Rs 5 crore for restoration of temples under Devsthan. The museum of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Arabic Persian research institute would be developed with a grant of Rs 1.19 crore.

Hawa Mahal – Most Recognizable Monument of Jaipur

Hawa Mahal was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. It’s one of the most recognizable monument of Jaipur. It adjoins the wall of  famous City Palace  which has now become one of the major landmarks of Jaipur city.

The palace is shaped like a pyramid and is a five-storied building, with number of small windows, screens and arched roofs. As one looks at this building, one realizes that the rear side of the building is comparatively very plain and lacks much of ornamentation.

About Hawa Mahal Museum

The Hawa Mahal museum in Jaipur City is situated in the Pratap Mandir, adjoining the Hawa Mahal. It was set up in the year 1983. The museum has a beautiful honeycomb structure cast in sandstone windows to allow the free passage of air through it.

This awesome structure carved exquisitely with white borders and motifs are painted with quicklime.

Different Exhibits of the Museum

The museum preserves the sculptural heritage collected from Ganeshwar, Virat Nagar, Raid, Sambhar and Nagar. Exhibits include items of terracotta, antiquities, fish hooks, arrow heads, swords, helmets and belongings of the Maharajas of Jaipur.

The main attraction of the museum is the big storage vessel of 2nd century A.D obtained during excavation at Naliasar (Sambhar).

Hawa Mahal  Museum opens at 10:00 Am and closes at 4.30 Pm daily except Fridays and government holidays.
