The Jai Niwas Garden is a beautiful garden located in Jaipur. Featuring a classical Mughal design, the Jai Niwas Garden is filled with interest and offers lush planting, outdoor sculptures, seating areas and even a small temple named “Govid Dev Ji”, which is dedicated to Lord Krishna.

Chandra Mahal

The Chandra Mahal (Moon Palace), the seven tired, pyramid like inner sanctum of the palace. These were the royal apartment, complete with an internal garden. Crowing them is the Mukut Mandir which has superb views.

The Chandra Mandir, Ground floor, has air cooling water channels and delicate floral designs on the ceiling. From its terrace the ruler could look across Jai niwas Garden to the Sri Govind Ji Temple.

Govind Devji Temple

In the central pavilion of the sprawling Jai Niwas Garden to the north of the Chandra Mahal is the spire less temple of Lord Krishna.

The image in the form of Govind Devji, originally installed in a temple of Vrindavan, was reinstalled here by Sawai Jai Singh-II as his family deity. This is the most famous and popular temple in Pink City attracting devotees from all over the country.

Hawa Mahal – Most Recognizable Monument of Jaipur

Hawa Mahal was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. It’s one of the most recognizable monument of Jaipur. It adjoins the wall of  famous City Palace  which has now become one of the major landmarks of Jaipur city.

The palace is shaped like a pyramid and is a five-storied building, with number of small windows, screens and arched roofs. As one looks at this building, one realizes that the rear side of the building is comparatively very plain and lacks much of ornamentation.

About Hawa Mahal Museum

The Hawa Mahal museum in Jaipur City is situated in the Pratap Mandir, adjoining the Hawa Mahal. It was set up in the year 1983. The museum has a beautiful honeycomb structure cast in sandstone windows to allow the free passage of air through it.

This awesome structure carved exquisitely with white borders and motifs are painted with quicklime.

Different Exhibits of the Museum

The museum preserves the sculptural heritage collected from Ganeshwar, Virat Nagar, Raid, Sambhar and Nagar. Exhibits include items of terracotta, antiquities, fish hooks, arrow heads, swords, helmets and belongings of the Maharajas of Jaipur.

The main attraction of the museum is the big storage vessel of 2nd century A.D obtained during excavation at Naliasar (Sambhar).

Hawa Mahal  Museum opens at 10:00 Am and closes at 4.30 Pm daily except Fridays and government holidays.

Location and Architecture

The City Palace situated in pink city Jaipur is an architectural marvel, with ornate gates, arches, balconies and country yard surrounded by a series of gardens and building over a vast expanse.

In the heart of the old city of Jaipur, the City Palace is a wonderful blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture, a major tourist attraction.

The outer wall was built by Maharaja Jai Singh II, but other additions are much more recent, some dating back to the beginning of this century.

City Palace Attractions

As you walk past the first square,  a beautiful gateway welcomes you to Diwan – e Khas, a hall for private audience juxtaposed with Diwan -e – Aam for public audience.

Two huge sterling silver vessels Gangajali punctuate your attention. Built in absolute symmetry, each 5’3″ high vessels weight 345 kg. As history records , Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh II in 1902 took these jars to England with Gangajal for the coronation ceremony of Edward VII.

Here Chandra Mahal Palace, Mubark Mahal, Mukut Mahal, Maharani’s Palace, Shri Govind Dev Temple and the city Palace Museum would interest you. Today the Complex converted into a Museum displays the royal attires of the Kings, weaponry dating back to 15th century AD and original manuscripts still makes home for the former Maharaja Bhawani Singh.

The museum has an extensive collection of art, carpets, enamelware and old weapons. The paintings include miniatures of Rajasthani, Persian and Mughal schools. The Mubarak Mahal, or the Auspicious Palace, contains the textile section of the museum.

Located close to the palace is the Jantar Mantar one of the five observatories. This one is the largest and collection of complex astronomical instruments chiselled out of stone most of which continue to provide fairy accurate information about days.
