Mahavir Bhagora will contest the  2009 Lok Sabha Elections of India as the  BJP candidate from the Udaipur Parliamentary Constituency (Rajasthan State).

Mahavir Bhagora waved wades of currency notes in the Lok Sabha

BJP MP Mahavir Bhagora from Salumber, waved wades of currency notes in the Lok Sabha during the confidence motion debate in July 2008.

He has been shifted from Salumbar (Scheduled Tribe) to Udaipur (Scheduled Tribe). This shift to Udaipur is in the wake of delimitation of constituencies while sitting MP and former Union minister Subhash Mehariya has again been fielded from Sikar.

About Udaipur constituency

A constituency that has been significantly altered post-delimitation, it is now a mixture of the old Udaipur and Salumber, and is now reserved for Scheduled Tribes. The old Udaipur had a habit of changing hands between the Congress and the BJP, while Salumber was a Congress stronghold which the BJP snatched away in 2004.

Its new status as a Scheduled Tribe constituency has meant that both the Congress and the BJP candidates have had to migrate away.

The assembly elections present a rather bleak scenario for the BJP. Of the eight segments, the BJP has two while the Congress has six.

Jyoti Mirdha is the Congress candidate for Nagaur parliamentary constituency in general elections 2009.  She is a doctor by profession and is the grand daughter of veteran Congress leader Nathuram Mirdha.

An Epicentre of Jat Politics

Nagaur is known as the epicentre of Jat politics and the region has great regard for the late Nathuram Mirdha.

A legend in the farming community, the late Nathuram Mirdha had served the Nagaur seat for decades and won the seat when the Congress lost most of the seats in north India in 1977.

A medical doctor by profession, Jyoti is expected to rekindle her grandfather charisma in the Marwar heartland.  Party sources feel, she will be able to read the pulse of the voters pretty well, since she is well acquainted with the Congress culture. Her father-in-law Krishna Gehlaut is also a Congress leader in Haryana.

BJP  has fielded Bindu Choudhary against Jyoti Mirdha

The BJP has nominated zila pramukh Bindu Choudhary, who switched from the Congress, against Jyoti Mirdha.

Both of them are Jats, both come from illustrious backgrounds and both have their votebanks. The BJP nominee is the daughter of two time MP, Ram Raghunath. If the Jat votes get divided, then the others will determine the outcome. That would depend on party management of the polls.

About Nagaur

Nagaur Parliamentary constituency is located in the middle of Rajasthan.  It is situated amidst seven districts namely Bikaner, Churu, Sikar, Jaipur, Ajmer, Pali, Jodhpur. Nagaur is the fifth largest district in Rajasthan with a vast terrain spreading over 17,718 sq. K.M.

In 2004 elections, Bhanwar Singh Dangawas of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won from Nagaur Parliamentary constituency defeating Ramraghunath of the Congress party. Bhanwar Singh Dangawas secured 45.08 per cent of the total valid votes, while Ramraghunath got 33.89 per cent votes.

Namo Narayan Meena is the Congress candidate for newly-formed Tonk-Sawai Madhopur Parliamentary Constituency.

Meena is a sitting MP from Sawai Madhopur , an ST-reserved constituency that has now been restructured as general Tonk-Sawai Madhopur seat. He is also a Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Environment and Forests.

Namo Narayan Meena (born 24 December 1943) is a minister of state in Government of India. He is elected to 14th Lok Sabha from Sawai Madhopur constituency in Rajasthan as a candidate of Indian National Congress party.

He did M.A in geography from M.B College Udipur and he worked as Agriculturist.

Served Indian Police Service as Additional Director General of Police

He also served Indian Police Service as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP). He resigned in 2003 to join as Member Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission. He finally joined Congress and was given a seat by them in the parliamentary elections of 2004 and won handsomely.

He has received President’s police medal for distinguish service while serving as SP in several districts of Rajasthan.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has nominated Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla for the newly-formed Tonk-Sawai Madhopur Lok Sabha seat from Rajasthan.

Col. Bainsla  -  Led the violent Gujjar agitation in Rajasthan

Col. Bainsla Bainsla,  led the violent Gujjar agitation in Rajasthan in 2007 and 2008 resulting in 70 deaths in police firing during the Vasundhara Raje regime.

The agitation was called off after the Raje government promised to grant reservation to Gujjars in Rajasthan under a special category of nomadic tribes.

Direct Gurjjar-Meena Poll Battle

Bainsla will take on union minister and Congress nominee Namo Narayan Meena and this battle will be a direct Gurjjar-Meena poll battle. Bainsla’s inclusion in the BJP now aims at wooing the Gujjar vote, estimated at around seven per cent of the electorate in the state.

The constituency, comprising areas from the former Tonk Lok Sabha constituency, reserved for the Scheduled Castes, and former Sawai Madhopur seat, reserved for the Scheduled Tribes, is now a general seat after the latest delimitation exercise.

Other Three Candidate Announced By BJP

The BJP also announced candidates for three other constituencies —Jaipur Rural, Dausa and Jhunjhunu. While sitting MLA from Shahpura, Rao Rajendra Singh, will contest from Jaipur Rural, former minister Ram Kishore Meena will try his luck in Dausa. In Jhunjhunu, Dashrath Singh will be the BJP candidate.

With this, both BJP and Congress have announced candidates in all the 25 seats.

About Bhilwara Constituency

A textile town in Mewar, this constituency has, in recent times, turned into a BJP stronghold. Particularly after the death of Shiv Charan Mathur, the BJP has consolidated its hold over the constituency. However, its boundaries have changed quite a bit post delimitation, so the history may not hold absolutely true now.

Of the recent four Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has won thrice, with the Congress winning only in 1998.

The recent assembly elections were a close affair and a mixed bag for the BJP, since both the Congress and the BJP won four seats apiece of the eight segments.

Meena’s Moves from BJP to Congress – Past Political Events

Last Year, KL Meena  left a ministerial berth in the Vasundhara Raje government in protest against what he called her bad governance.

Congress failed to get a clear majority in the 200-member state assembly elections. Meena and his wife Golma Devi along with other independent MLAs helped Congress and Ashok Gehlot secure a majority

During the assembly elections it was Kirori Lal who managed to single-handedly dent BJP’s prospects by ditching his old party.  Meenas, a community known to vote bank, handed over Kirori Lal and his supporters a thumping victory which helped prop Congress to power when it fell short of the majority mark.

The Meena leader’s relationship with the Congress began chafing over the party ticket from the now reserved Dausa constituency. Kirori Lal claimed that he has been insulted by the Congress, particularly Union Minister Namo Narain Meena, who is also in the fray for Dausa.

Golma Devi, a Minister of State in Gehlot government resigned last week over alleged rifts between the Congress and her husband Kirori Lal Meena who is understood to have proposed his own candidates in seven Parliamentary seats to which Congress did not agree.

Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena is the minister with cabinet rank in Government of Rajasthan with portfolio of food and civil supplies. He was born in 1951 in Sawai Madhopur district and has done MBBS.

He was elected to Lok Sabha in 1989 from Sawai Madhopur constituency. He was first elected to Rajasthan Legislative Assembly in 1985 from Mahuva.
