Arjun Meghwal - An IAS turned Politician - BJP Candidate for Bikaner Parliamentary Constituency

Arjun Meghwal is the  BJP candidate for Bikaner Parliamentary Constituency (Rajasthan State) in the General Elections India 2009.

Why he got ticket  from Bikaner?

1. In this elections, Bikaner Constituency has been reserved for scheduled caste after delimitation and Dharmendra, who won in last election is from Other Backward caste (OBC).

2. Arjun have blessing hands of senior party leaders.

3. Arjun Meghwal is also unruffled by the fact that Bollywood actor Dharmendra, the last BJP MP from the constituency, was hugely unpopular with the people as he visited them just three times in his five-year tenure.

Arjun Meghwal’s Profile

Arjun Meghwal is a law graduate and an IAS officer in tax department. He  was born in Kishni Deri village, which is barely five kilometers from Bikaner.

He has administration skills  that might work in his favour in upcoming general elections.

In December 2008, during the assembly elections, Arjun who was Collector at Churu, was accused by Congress to be working hand-in-glove with the BJP and was transferred midway through the polls.

About Bikaner constituency

This constituency in the northwest of Rajasthan, has now been reserved for Scheduled Castes, so both the Congress and the BJP had to go hunting for new candidates. It also ensured that the sitting MP, the yesteryear Bollywood hero, Dharmendra of the BJP, was denied a ticket from the constituency.

Of the previous four elections, the Congress has won this twice and the BJP twice. The surprising thing about this constituency is that the victory margin generally tends to be handsome for whoever wins.
