Namo Narayan Meena is the Congress candidate for newly-formed Tonk-Sawai Madhopur Parliamentary Constituency.

Meena is a sitting MP from Sawai Madhopur , an ST-reserved constituency that has now been restructured as general Tonk-Sawai Madhopur seat. He is also a Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Environment and Forests.

Contest Between  Col. Kirori Singh Bainsla & Namo Narayan Meena

In this elections, Namo Narayan Meena  will contest against Col. Kirori Singh Bainsla, a former army officer, who was in the forefront of the agitation by the Gujjar community for ST status in 2007-08. Col. Kirori Singh Bainsla belongs to BJP Party.

A View on Namo Narayan Meena’s Profile

Namo Narayan Meena (born 24 December 1943) is a minister of state in Government of India. He is elected to 14th Lok Sabha from Sawai Madhopur constituency in Rajasthan as a candidate of Indian National Congress party.

He did M.A in geography from M.B College Udipur and he worked as Agriculturist.

Served Indian Police Service as Additional Director General of Police

He also served Indian Police Service as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP). He resigned in 2003 to join as Member Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission. He finally joined Congress and was given a seat by them in the parliamentary elections of 2004 and won handsomely.

He has received President’s police medal for distinguish service while serving as SP in several districts of Rajasthan.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has nominated Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla for the newly-formed Tonk-Sawai Madhopur Lok Sabha seat from Rajasthan.

Col. Bainsla  -  Led the violent Gujjar agitation in Rajasthan

Col. Bainsla Bainsla,  led the violent Gujjar agitation in Rajasthan in 2007 and 2008 resulting in 70 deaths in police firing during the Vasundhara Raje regime.

The agitation was called off after the Raje government promised to grant reservation to Gujjars in Rajasthan under a special category of nomadic tribes.

Direct Gurjjar-Meena Poll Battle

Bainsla will take on union minister and Congress nominee Namo Narayan Meena and this battle will be a direct Gurjjar-Meena poll battle. Bainsla’s inclusion in the BJP now aims at wooing the Gujjar vote, estimated at around seven per cent of the electorate in the state.

About Newly-formed Tonk-Sawai Madhopur Constituency

The constituency, comprising areas from the former Tonk Lok Sabha constituency, reserved for the Scheduled Castes, and former Sawai Madhopur seat, reserved for the Scheduled Tribes, is now a general seat after the latest delimitation exercise.

A View On Bainsla’s Family

Bainsla, a former army officer  has a daughter who works with the Income Tax department in Goa, two sons in the Army and one son in a private mobile firm.

Other Three Candidate Announced By BJP

The BJP also announced candidates for three other constituencies —Jaipur Rural, Dausa and Jhunjhunu. While sitting MLA from Shahpura, Rao Rajendra Singh, will contest from Jaipur Rural, former minister Ram Kishore Meena will try his luck in Dausa. In Jhunjhunu, Dashrath Singh will be the BJP candidate.

With this, both BJP and Congress have announced candidates in all the 25 seats.
