Mission behind the college
The mission of the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) is to support research that increases understanding of life processes. The institute is committed to provide the best education of national and international standard.
Divisions of Institute
NIGMS is organized into divisions and a center that support research and research training in a range of scientific fields. One division has the specific mission of increasing the number of biomedical and behavioral scientists who are members of underrepresented minority groups.
Facilities
The college provides international Standard’s Laboratories, Library, Mess, Hostel, Computer Lab, Lecture Theaters facilities to its students.
Training and Research
NIGMS supports biomedical and behavioral research training programs that help provide the most critical element of good research: well-prepared scientists. NIGMS encourage increasing the participation of individuals currently underrepresented in the biomedical, clinical, behavioral and social sciences.

Vacancy: Research Assistants (2) and Rappoteurs (2)
Project: “Coordination between frontline workers of ICDS and RCH: a case study of Rajasthan”
Project Area: Udaipur District in Rajasthan
Project Commencing: January 2011
Total duration of assignment: Approximately Nine Months
Core Job Responsibilities
A) Research Assistant
· Participate in residential research training scheduled in December 2010
· Field data collection: social mapping, task listing, interviews, observations, group discussions etc.
· Assist the Rappoteur in Data recording
· Oversee the daily field notes of the Rappoteur and reporting to the Principal Investigator
· Participate in data cleaning, entry and analysis
B) Rappoteurs
· Participate in five day long residential research training
· Be the part of field data collection along with the Research Assistants
· Record the field findings at the site
· Prepare daily field reports
· Report and brief the Principal Investigator on day to day basis
· Participate in data cleaning, entry and analysis
Educational and Professional Qualification
A) Research Assistants
· Post graduates/Graduates with good working knowledge of Hindi and English Languages
· Basic knowledge about Reproductive and Child Health Program and Integrated Child Development Scheme of Government of India
· Atleast 1-2 years of work experience in health sector especially in maternal and child health area
· Must have knowledge and experience of working on a qualitative data collection in the field
· Must have good working knowledge and practice of Microsoft Office and internet
· Working knowledge of ATLAS TI (qualitative software) will be preferred
B) Rappoteurs
· Post graduates/Graduates with good working knowledge of Hindi and English Languages
· Basic knowledge about Reproductive and Child Health Program and Integrated Child Development Scheme of Government of India
· Atleast 1-2 years of work experience in health sector especially in maternal and child health area
· Must have good documentation skills
· Must have good working knowledge and practice of Microsoft Office and internet
· Knowledge and expertise in EXCEL and ATLAS TI (qualitative research software) will be highly preferred.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator cum Supervisor on a daily basis
Remuneration
· Research Assistant: Rs. 10,000/month
· Rappoteur: Rs. 6000/month
· All boarding and lodging related to the project will be taken care by the project.
· Each team will be given one laptop, camera, phone connection, pen drive and voice recorder for the project period.
