About College
Sardar Patel Medical College, located in Bikaner city, was founded by former Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, in 1959. Previously it was known as Bikaner Medical College.
This college has a distinction of being the second medical college of the state. It is affiliated to Rajasthan University of Health and Sciences, Jaipur.
Nehru’s Dream
Nehru’s dream was that such a center would set the pace for medical education and research in Rajasthan and immediately after independence he prepared a grand design to achieve it as  SP Medical college, center of excellence in the medical sciences.
Objectives of College
The goal of Sardar Patel Medical College is to develop high standard patterns of teaching in Undergraduate and Post-graduate Medical Education.
Courses Offered, Departments and Facilities
SP Medical College conducts MBBS at undergraduate level and MD courses at postgraduate level. The college has 100 seats for the MBBS courses and 63 seats for the post graduate students.
The college has total 31 departments Anatomy, P.S.M., Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Dentistry, Biochemistry etc. It is also associated with several hospitals like P.B.M. Male Hospital, P.B.M. Female Hospital, G.G.J. TB Hospital, and Eye Department etc to provide updated knowledge in the field. It has comprehensive facilities for teaching, research and patient-care.
Contribution for Nation
In last 50 years Sardar Patel Medical College Bikaner has given a number of best doctors to the nation. The college has also opened the first Coronary Care Unit of the state.
