Rajasthan Lok Sabha Elections – A SnapShot on Polling across 25 Parliamentary Constituencies

The fourth round of polling on Thursday saw an average turnout of 50%  for  25 Lok Sabha constituencies in Rajasthan.

Highest 62 per cent polling  in Sriganganagar

According to Electoral Office, the highest polling was reported at 62 per cent in Sriganganagar. Nearly 49 per cent of the voters exercised their franchise in Jaipur and Jaipur Rural constituencies, while the turnout was the lowest at 37 per cent in Jalore.

Polling, which was generally slow in the morning, picked up later in the day. A marginal decline in temperature encouraged people to come out and vote. A total of 346 candidates were in the fray expecting support from 37,059,892 voters in the State.

The 42,702 polling booths across the State included six mobile booths in Jaisalmer district.

Prominent candidates whose poll fortune were locked in EVMs include Congress leader Sachin Pilot from Ajmer Lok Sabha seat, Union Minister Sis Ram Ola (Jhunjhunu), Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla and Union Minister Namo Narayan Meena (SawaiMadhopur-Tonk ), Girija Vyas (Chittorgarh), Manvendra Singh, sitting BJP MP from Barmer and son of Jaswant Singh, and saffron nominee Dushyant Singh, son of former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, in Jhalawar-Baran.

Re-Polling on 14 booth across the State – Some Mishaps

There were about 14 booths across the State where the polling process was disrupted due to various malpractices, necessitating re-polling. The dates for re-polling will be decided after a comprehensive scrutiny on Friday.

These polling stations are situated in the Tonk-Sawai Madhopur, Bharatpur, Karauli-Dholpur, Pali, Jhalawar-Baran, Dausa and Nagaur constituencies.

One person was killed and another injured in firing by security personnel at a mob that tried to capture a polling booth at Olwara village in Sawai Madhopur district.

An independent candidate Kirorilal Meena received minor injuries when unidentified persons pelted stones at his convoy near Bhadarej village polling booths, 15km from Dausa district headquarters.

There were reports of technical snags in the electronic voting machines at several places and 168 of them had to be replaced during the day.

Congress Announced List of 18 Candidates for Lok Sabha Elections from Rajasthan

First list of 15 candidates from Bharatiya Janata Party was announced almost a fortnight ago. The Congress today announced a list of 18 Lok Sabha candidates for Rajasthan.  There are eight new faces in the list and two re-nominations for sitting MPs.

The Congress has so far done a good job in choosing a mix of experienced heavyweights and first timers in the Lok Sabha election. While Joshi who lost assembly election by one vote recently has been named from Bhilwara, GirijaVyas will be contesting from Chittorgarh and Union Minister Sis Ram Ola from JhunJhunu. Young MP Sachin Pilot has been moved to Ajmer this time.

Ex-Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin, a new face on election forefront, wish to contest from Tonk seat, which is yet to be decided. Party leader Mahesh Joshi has been fielded from Jaipur, Chandresh Kumar from Jodhpur, a constituency once represented by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.


High Representation of Women in Congress list from Rajasthan

The Congress party has given high representation to women in its first list of 18 candidates  for the Lok Sabha elections in Rajasthan by nominating as many as five of them. The chosen ones include seasoned women leaders such as Chandresh Kumari and Girija Vyas, both former national presidents of the Mahila Congress, and Jyoti Mirdha, the granddaughter of the veteran farmers’ leader, the late Nathuram Mirdha.

There are seven out of the total 25 Lok Sabha seats in Rajasthan where candidates have yet to be announced by the Congress. The party has not nominated Union Minister of State for Forest and Environment, Namonarain Meena and sitting MP from Alwar, Karan Singh Yadav.

Mr. Meena wants a ticket from Dausa but Kirorilal Meena, former BJP leader who is now supporting the Congress Government in Rajasthan, has staked a claim for the seat. Namonarain Meena’s present constituency—Sawai Madhopur– has become a general seat after delimitation.
