Jamnalal BajajPersonal Profile

Born on 4 November 1884, Jamnalal Bajaj  became a famous industrialist and Indian independence fighter. Jamnalal was born into a poor family, the third son of Kaniram and Birdibai, in a village named Kashi Ka Bas, near Sikar.

Achievements

Upon coming of age, under the guidance of Seth Bachhraj (friend of Jamnalal’s father), Jamnalal got involved in the family business of his grandfather. During this period he acquired the knowledge of being a businessmen. During the period of his working he kept strict accounts and got involved in buying and selling commodities.

He was excellent in his work and with his efforts in 1926 when he founded Bajaj group of industries. It was his dedication and hard work because of which at present several industries in India bears his name,including the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies Bajaj Group of industries which has 24 companies, Bajaj Auto ltd., Bajaj Electricals all were founded by Jamnala Bajaj.

Jamnalal as Gandhi’s Son

Jamnalal Bajaj was the follower of Mahatma Gandhi and he took interest in Gandhi’s way of life and his principles. He understood Gandhi’s vision that the home-made good can remove the poverty of India. He was impressed too much by the Gandhi’s Ashram’s routine of prayer and physical work that he brought his wife Jankidevi and his children to live in the Ashram.

Jamnalal was the person who was interested to take initiatives. He did his best to remove the social evils like untouchability, He promoted our mother language Hindi, and Khadi and village Industries.

Awards and Recogniation

In 1925, Jamnalal Bajaj was chosen as the treasurer of the All India Spinners Association. He was also the president of the All India Hindi Sahitya Sammelan (literary convention) that promoted Hindi as the single language to unite all Indians.

He was instrumental in publishing Hindi magazines and books. He initiated the Gandhi Hindi Pustak Bhandar (bookshop) in Mumbai and started the Sasta Sahitya mandal (publishing house).
