About Kaila Devi Temple

Kaila devi temple, which came into  existence around 1100 A.D., is  of Shri Kaila Devi ji, a reigning diety of millions of people of eastern Rajasthan, M.P. and U.P.

Around  60 lacs pilgrims flock to this place every year. This temple is regarded as one of   the  9  Shakti  peeths   of  goddess Durga. In chaitra Navratra virtually the entire area of  eastern  Rajasthan,  western U.P. and western  M.P. congregate at the  feet of goddess.

Location

Shri   Kailadevi  ji  temple  is  situated around   23   km.  away  from  Karauli town in district Karauli.The temple is situated on the banks of the Kalisil river in Karauli district. It is a marble structure with a large courtyard of a checkered floor. You can find a number of red flags planted by devotees at a certain spot in the temple courtyard.

Another attraction of this place is a small temple dedicated to Bhairon, situated in the courtyard and facing the shrine of Kaila Devi is a temple of Hanuman locally called ‘Languriya’.

Festival

Date of the festival: March/April i.e in the month of Chaitra(according to Hindu festival calendar).

The annual fair of Kaila Devi, (Mahalakshmi or the goddess of wealth), is held at the village Kaila (24 kms to the south west) in Karauli district in the month of Chaitra (Mar-Apr), lasting for a fortnight. The religious fair attracts million of pilgrims from different corners of the world.

According to the rituals, animals are sacrificed outside the temple and folk activities are performed with great enthusiasm. The atmosphere turns live with the active participation of Mina tribes. They make best effort to showcase their culture in the form of dances and musics.

Ardent devotees follow the ritual of Kanak-Dandotis. Accordingly, devotees lie flat and make prominent line with their hands. A distance of 20 kms has to be covered by the pilgrims so as to pay homage to the deity. Money, bangles, coconuts, fruits and sweets are offered before the Goddess.

Traders from surrounding areas come to the fair and do brisk business. Rajputs, Meenas and members of the some other scheduled castes are among the principal devotees of Kaila Devi.

How to reach Kalia Devi Temple

The nearest Sanganer Airport is located at Jaipur. The aerodrome is connected to Indian metro cities like Mumbai and Delhi. International Tourist can catch connecting flights from Delhi and Mumbai.

The nearest railway station is in Gangapur which is 81 km away from Karauli. Gangapur is developed with rail heads which links major train stations in India. Daily state-owned bus services and tourist coaches ply over Karauli to Gangapur (81 km) and Jaipur (160 km) aid travelers reach the festival ground in time.
