Sis Ram Ola - Oldest Congress Candidate from Jhunjhunu

Sis Ram Ola is contesting the  2009 Loksabha Elections as the  Congress candidate from the Jhunjhunu Parliamentary Constituency in Rajasthan State. Ola has been representing this constituency since 1996.

Sheesh Ram has been active for the last fifty years as a Gandhian constructive worker from the time of the Quit India Movement. He has always mingled with the villagers and had remained their friend, philosopher and guide.

He had served twice in the state cabinet of Rajasthan in the capacity of a minister, had tried to bring water to the desert and has done pioneering work in the field of education.

In this election he will contest against Dashrath Singh who belongs to BJP Party.

Political and Personal  Profile

Sis Ram Ola by profession is an Agriculturist, Defense Personnel, Political & Social Worker. He was born on 30th July 1927 to father Shri Choudhary Mangla Ram at Ardawata, Distt. Jhunjhunu (Rajasthan). He married Sheobai and have two sons and one daughter.

He was a Member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from 1957 to 1990, and from 1980 to 1990 he was a Cabinet Minister in the Government of Rajasthan. From 1993 to 1996, he was again a Member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. In 1996, he was elected to the 11th Lok Sabha and  worked as  Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers  from 1996 to 1997 and Union Minister of State for Water Resources from 1997 to 1998.

He was re-elected to the 12th Lok Sabha in 1998, the 13th Lok Sabha in 1999, and the 14th Lok Sabha in 2004. He was Union Cabinet Minister of Labour and Employment from May 23, 2004 to November 27, 2004

Sis Ram Ola was the recipient of the Padma Shri award in 1968 for social work.
