Rajasthan Handicraft Exporters ‘Forhex Fair’ Successfully Held in Jaipur

Forhex Rajasthan Handicraft Exporters in Rajasthan are now looking to the domestic market to survive through the crisis. This is mainly because the Indian market has largely remained largely unaffected by the global meltdown as compared to the rest of the world.

The Federation of Rajasthan Handicraft Exporters is conceptualized to be interface between the Handicraft Exporter, the Government and other related institutions in order, that the industry may grow and progress in totality.

To tap the domestic market, the Federation of Rajasthan Handicraft Exporters (FRHE) organised a three-day Handicraft Fair from 14 Aug to 16 Aug  in Birla Auditorium of Jaipur in order to provide a platform to sellers and buyers of handicraft.

Forhex Fair Attractions

Forhex Fair was one of the mega event in India which showcased wide range of handicraft products. This is the 1st edition of the event organized by Federation Of Rajasthan Handicraft Exporters. The Fair attracted thousands of visitors from India as well as  neighboring countries.

About 100 exhibitors showcased their world-class quality items, including blue pottery, ceramics, clay items, traditional furnishing items, textiles, jewellery and furniture artifacts on the during fair.

All items which were used to be exported are now being offered in the local market to whole sellers, retailers and even individual buyers.

FORHEX aims to work towards a challenge oriented future by promoting world-class products and services in this trade. The event offered a nice opportunity for the attendees to source a unique range of Rajasthan’s handicrafts and textiles prepared for export.

This year the handicraft Industry in Rajasthan exported items worth Rs 200 billion, which is Rs 150 billion less compared with the last fiscal year.

The wood carving of Rajasthan is an age old craft which was highly in demand during the royal age. In the earlier days there used to be special artists working in the palaces who were also supported by the royals to promote this art.

In wood carving process wood is ornamented with design by means of sharp cutting tools held in the hand. The term includes anything within the limit of sculpture in the round up to hand-worked moldings such as help to compose the tracery of screens.

These days artists at Barmer very skillfully carve beds and couches which have jali or net carving along with many other patterns and motifs.

Sandal Wood Carving

Fragment and quite beautiful sandalwood carvings come in range of objects and themes – ranging from caravan of tiny camels to decorate a mantle piece to key chains, paper knives and trinket boxes.

Sandalwood is very delicate and have an aromatic blend, thus are widely used in making decorative objects such as furniture, photo frame, jewellery box, and sandalwood incense, sandalwood oil, sandalwood candle and many. The incense sticks and agar wood are primarily used for medicinal or religious practices and provided in pure and completely natural

Chandan or sandalwood is considered to be very sacred thing, so these products are also used for worshiping Gods.

Inlaid Wood Carving

The inlay art enhances the natural sheen of wood by juxtaposing it with other material. It involves embedding plastic, bone, other varieties of wood and metal into flat wooden surface in a decorative way.

This craft is used in the decoration of chair-backs, tabletops and smaller items like trinket boxes. The most amazing art in this category is ‘taarkashi’ or wire inlay where delicate loops of brass or copper set off the dark, polished surface of wood.

Decoration of wood is also done by using colored lacquer. This work is traditionally famous from Udaipur. The items produced include tables, teapots, lamps and decorative items in lovely designs and soft shades.
