The National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA) was established by the Government of India in the year of 1976. The institute is located in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

The Institute is affiliated to the Rajasthan Ayurveda University, Jodhpur for research and examination purposes.

Aim of Institute

National Institute of Ayurveda is working to promote the growth and development of Ayurveda in India. Its aim is to produce graduates and postgraduates in all branches of Ayurveda and to research on various aspects of Ayurveda and providing medical care through Ayurvedic System of Medicine.

Academic Activities

The institute conducts Under-graduate Course, Ayurvedacharya (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) which is of 5.5 years duration (4.5 years of the main course and 1 year internship).  The PG Course, MD (Ayurved) or Ayurved Vachaspati of 3 years duration is divided into two Parts.

A regular Ph.D. Course with 2 fellowships is also available in the subjects of Kaya Chikitsa, Shalya Tantra, Dravyaguna,  Vikriti Vigyan and Shareer Kriya.

Services and Facilities

NIA has 2 hospitals & patient care services. It is providing high standard facilities to its students. There are 4 Hostels with a total capacity of 348 providing residential accommodation to students in the campus.

The Institute has an Audio and Video Library with Photo Copier, T.V., V.C.R. and a good collection of Video Medical Cassettes of varied subjects.

Research Activities

The Institute is also engaged in research activities to explore various areas in Ayurveda like – Clinical research, Drug research, literary research. etc. The institute is also working to provide services and facilities of the highest order for research.
