Government Initiative

The state is preparing to formalize the critical government policies that are needed to catapult these projects off the drawing board.

Such policies will include: land availability secured by the government; guaranteed assistance with transmission lines and interconnection; and, power purchase agreements ensuring that all power produced by solar projects will be purchased at pre-determined rates.

Projects totaling 56MW have been allocated to different developers, including two separate 5MW projects to U.S. developers. In addition, the Asian Development Bank is funding construction of a 50MW solar project in the state, and this project will be open to competitive bidding.

Opportunities for Investors

The state has a long-term vision to establish itself as a global hub for solar energy production, Opportunities for investors associated with these projects includes concentrated solar power technologies, photovoltaic equipment, rooftop solar installations, and household solar photovoltaic equipment etc.

Solar Energy Enterprises Zone

In Rajasthan, the State Government plans to establish a Solar Energy Enterprises Zone (SEEZ) in the districts of Barmer, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur by offering a package of incentives to private investors willing to develop various solar power technologies.

Solar Energy to Electrify Offices in Rajasthan

Rajasthan government has decided to tap solar energy to electrify offices of its power company. The solar plant is likely to cut down power cost by more than 70 per cent. The government is also seeking permission for the energy audit of other government buildings.

Major Investors in Solar Energy

Reliance Industries is to establish a five megawatt solar power project at Khimsar in Nagaur district of Rajasthan. The project, the first for Reliance, is set to be commissioned next year.

Broadlands Financial Group based in Villanova, PA, has been selected by Entegra Limited for the construction of a 10 megawatt Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) plant in Rajasthan.

Moser Baer Photo Voltaic (MBPV), a wholly owned subsidiary of Moser Baer India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Rajasthan for setting up of a large solar power project in Rajasthan.
