Bundi is famous for its monuments, especially the Taragarh fort.

Braj Bhushanjee Haveli was built around 200 year before and  belongs to Bohara Braj Bhushanjee family, which gave Bundi as many as four Prime Ministers all in the 19th Century.

This Haveli is situated just below the palace and its location make it very convenient for the tourist  to visit other places in the city and enjoy their traditional  life of Rajasthan and culture of this beautiful city.

The  rooms have been traditionally decorated and few rooms have some of the finest Bundi School Painting (murals) one can see in this region. In 1990, this Braj Bhushanjee have been converted into Heritage Hotel.

The Bundi Utsav held annually in the month of November has added to the glory of the place and has provided a worldwide exposure. This year Bundi Utsav will be held between 5 Nov – 7 Nov 2009.

The Bundi Utsav begins with a vibrant Shobha Yatra (procession) and features arts & crafts fair, ethnic sports, cultural exhibition and folk, classical music & dance programme to entertain the discerning guests.

Traditional Rural Sports

It also features Deep Daan, sight seeing, traditional rural sports, turban competition, bridal attire, musical band competition and dazzling fireworks display, which attracts huge number of visitors and villagers from nearby regions.

Mini Pushkar

During Bundi Utsav, Keshorai Patan, a small town close to Bundi, epitomizes the glance of Mini Pushkar in the silver embrace of moonlit night. The villagers, elegantly dressed in their traditional attire, gather at the serene banks of Chambal River.

How to reach Bundi

Bundi is around 210 kms by road from Jaipur and about 110 kms from Sawai Madhopur. Bundi, Baran and Jhalawar are all easily accessible by road from Kota.

The Bundi Palace

The Bundi Palace is situated adjacent to the Taragarh fort. This outstanding palace, built during the 16th and 17th centuries is a classic Rajasthani architecture. Only part of the palace is open to the public.

The quarried stone Bundi Palace is known for it’s traditional murals. Just one look at the monument will soak you with the royal opulence and splendour, an innate part of the lifestyle of the royals. Intricately engraved brackets, pillers, balconies, sculpted elephants and the extraordinary craftsmanship will catch your attention here.

The palace is entered through the Hathi Pole (Elephant Gate) into a small courtyard. You then come to the Ratan Daulat, the Diwan-i-am (Hall of Public Audience), where there is a marble throne. The highlight of this palace is the beautiful murals that carry the spectators back into the time of Bundi royalty.

Chitrashala

The silent, secret garden, with it’s elegant formal layout still visible through the tangle of wild-roses and weeds is the most enchanting place at the Bundi Palace. Showcasing the Bundi genre of miniature art, the walls and the ceiling are festooned with pictures out of the Ragmala and Raaslila-the story of Radha-Krishna.

Then there are hunting and court scenes, festivals, processions, animal and bird life that spring back images of all that was a part of the artist’s acuity then. The vibrant blue, green and turquoise on white with touches of terracotta yellow lend an arresting view.
